Class Rules

  • Everyone must have a book.  You will have one week from your first day in class to get a book.

  • You are responsible for bringing your book, as well as pencils or pens, highlighters, paper or notebook, and a binder or folder to class every day.

  • If you are going to be absent for several days or have to stop coming to class, please tell or email Denise.

  • If you miss a class, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed.  Extra copies will be in the file box

  • Turn off your cell phone ringer in class.  If you must have your phone on, turn it to vibrate.  If you must talk on the phone, go outside of the classroom.

Besides our book:

  • We’ll study an idiom every day.
  • We’ll study 8 irregular verbs a week and have weekly tests on them.
Students who want to pass the Level 4 writing test or plan to take credit classes can do extra writing assignments.  Talk to Denise about this.


Learn English faster:

*      Speak English to your classmates.
*      Do your homework.
*      Go to Denise’s website.
*      Check out books from the library.
*      Ask Denise for extra work.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  • Outcome 1: Recognize spoken English containing some unfamiliar words in mostly familiar contexts.
  • Outcome 2: Engage in English conversations in formal and informal settings on familiar topics with increasing ease and accuracy.
  • Outcome 3: Use an increasing variety of word analysis skills to determine the meaning of new words in context.
  • Outcome 4: Differentiate fact from opinion in simplified reading material and some authentic material.
  • Outcome 5: Organize relevant ideas and appropriate details into one or more clearly organized short paragraphs or speeches.
  • Outcome 6: Use Intermediate Low language structures and forms.
